Something that I found really cool about this hard drive is that since it’s an officially licensed product, it actually comes with the PlayStation logo on the top right-hand corner of the drive. I know I’m one of those people who likes everything to match perfectly, so this drive was just what I needed.
Massive Storage Space, Uncompromised Speed
Depending on your needs, you can either grab the 2TB or 4TB version. For myself, I got the 2TB one because 4TB is a bit overkill for what I need and I personally think that the design of the 2TB model is a bit more sleek and overall more aesthetic.
Regardless, the 2TB drive definitely provides more than enough capacity to install 50+ games. And with a high-speed USB 3.0 interface, you’ll be able to experience full-speed gaming as if you were playing directly from your console’s internal drive. To be exact, our test results came back with impressive read and write speeds of 135 MB/s read and 130 MB/s write.
This was without a doubt the most important feature for me since there’s really no point in having lots of storage space if your games are going to be slowed down, which would really lower your overall gaming experience and performance.
Game Anywhere, Anytime
Another great thing about this hard drive that I love is how easy and convenient it is to carry it around with you. Not only is it highly portable, it’s incredibly easy to set up with any PlayStation 4. Just plug it in and PS4 systems will automatically recognize your device. Then you’ll be taken through a quick setup, after which you’ll be able to play your games on the new console. You also don’t have to worry about compatibility issues as the Game Drive works with any generation of PlayStation 4 as long as its software version is 4.50 or higher.
Game Drive for PS4 vs Other Storage Devices
So why should you get the Game Drive for PS4 over other external hard drives or SSDs? First off, if you have a PlayStation 4 and you’re looking for a suitable storage drive for your games, I would definitely consider taking a look at this drive. The fact that it’s officially licensed by PlayStation means that it’s almost guaranteed that compatibility won’t be an issue. Also, with its read and write speeds, this hard drive is comparatively faster than a lot of other external hard drives out there.
Sure, you could probably get an external SSD which would in fact be faster than the Game Drive for PS4, but the downside with SSDs is that they’ll likely be more on the expensive side. Not to mention, you won’t have the same level of certainty when it comes to compatibility.
Summary
Overall, I’m a big fan of the Game Drive for PS4 from Seagate as it fills the void for a reliable storage device that I can use with my PS4. With this drive, I can feel at ease because I know all of my games are stored and protected. So whenever I’m feeling nostalgic and want to boot up some old games that I probably would have deleted a long time ago if it wasn’t for this drive, I can just plug it in and take a trip down memory lane.
Not only that, I absolutely love the way it looks. The black aluminum exterior with its slim and sleek design fits in perfectly with the rest of my console setup. And the PlayStation 4 logo on the top just makes it look even more official and stylish.
