The Witcher

Announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, the first trailer for Netflix’s The Witcher series shows off Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in action. Based on the trailer alone, this series looks to be going for a darker theme, rife with magic, monsters, and action.

It really did have everything you could ask for from a first trailer. It showed off the cast playing their respective characters, gave a rather interesting background to the premise of the story, and filled out the rest with breathtaking cinematography. As the series is being headed up by Daredevil writer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, this shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. Some other notable names in the production team include Alik Sakharov from Game of Thrones and Charlotte Brandstrom from Outlander.

As for Henry Cavill, largely known for his role as Superman, looks great so far for the role of Geralt, much to my delight. When it was first announced that Cavill would be playing Geralt in Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher, there was quite a bit of backslash questioning his suitability for the role. However, as Cavill is a huge fan of The Witcher games, it was definitely worth giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Along with Henry Cavill, the series will also be starring Freya Allan as Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Anna Shaffer as Triss, Joey Batey as Jaskier, Adam Levy as Mousesack, Therica Wilson-Read as Sabrina, and Mimi Ndiweni as Fringilla. There’s no set release date yet but if all goes well, the series is expected to premiere in Autumn 2019.
