Seagate FireCuda 510 SSD
An SSD specialized for gaming? That sounds great and all but what exactly does that entail? In this review of the FireCuda 510 SSD from Seagate, we’re going to be exploring just that. You can watch the full video review of this brand new gaming SSD below:
Form Factor and Connection Interface
To kick things off, we’re going to be taking a look at the this SSD’s basic features such as its form factor and connection interface. The FireCuda comes in a super slim and compact design with a M.2 2280 double-sided form factor and is built with a PCIe Gen3 ×4, NVMe 1.3 connection interface.
Now, what exactly is NVMe? If you’re not familiar with the term, NVMe stands for non volatile memory express and basically, is a type of interface for flash-based storage devices that offers super low latency.
Fast Read and Write Speeds
Now let’s talk about this SSD’s storage speed. The FireCuda offers Max. Sequential Read and Write Speeds of 3450 MB/s read and 3200 MB/s write. Basically, what this means is that this SSD is crazy fast. Especially compared to your traditional hard drive, SATA SSD, or even in some cases, PCIe SSD.
To put things into perspective, the FireCuda can read and write data up to 6X faster than the average SATA SSD, which typically has sequential read and write speeds of up to only 560MB/s read and 540MB/s write. Random read and write speeds are also way faster than your average HDD or SATA SSD.
Another contributing factor to take into account is the storage capacity.
Coming in either 1TB or 2TB, this SSD’s storage capacity is considerably higher than your typical M.2 which usually comes in either 256GB or 512GB.
What Makes a Gaming SSD?
Now you might be wondering, what makes the FireCuda so good for gaming compared to your conventional M.2 SSD?
To start, it provides super fast storage speeds, which allows your gaming processes to run much, much faster and more smoothly. So regardless of what kind of game you’re playing, whether it be an RPG, RTS, or FPS game, you can expect to see a significant boost in speed and performance.
This means faster load times and reduced stuttering and lag which makes a really big difference when you’re playing competitively and need that little extra something to give you an edge over the competition.
Reliability and Durability
Last but not least, one very important thing to point out here is that the FireCuda was designed not only for speed and performance, but also durability over long hours of use.
This is reinforced by its high MTBF, or Mean Time Between Failures, which stands at a whopping 1.8m hours.
If you’re not familiar with the term, MTBF is basically a way of quantifying the reliability and longevity of a hardware product.
Summary
Overall, the impresses on multiple levels with its amazing read and write performance, low latency, and high storage capacities.
So if you’re looking to take your gameplay to the next level, this SSD is definitely a great option.
